The Sony Xperia 1 III is a new mobile phone on the market which was released in August 2021. The specifications may change as this phone is very new so there is not 100% certainty. The network technology is the standard GSM / HSPA / LTE as well as 5G. You can also compare this with the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua.

Sony Xperia 1 III

The phone is a standard size this being the 165 x 71 x 8.2 mm (6.50 x 2.80 x 0.32 in) which fits into your pocket. It is a big heavy coming in at 186 g / 187.1 g. This is much heavier than the older Sony Xperia M4 Aqua which comes in at about 135 grams. The front of the phone is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus on the front as well as  glass back with Gorilla Glass 6 all within an aluminum frame. The Sony Xperia 1 III mobile phone also comes with a Hybrid Dual SIM this also being a Nano-SIM with dual stand-by as standard. The display much like most phones today is covered with the IP65/IP68 dust/water resistant and this is water resistant up to 1.5m for a period of 30 mins.

Display

The display on the Sony Xperia 1 III is an OLED screen with 1B colors, 120Hz, HDR BT.2020. The screen is large as it comes with a 6.5 inches, 98.6 cm2 (~84.2% screen-to-body ratio) screen. All of this with a resolution of 1644 x 3840 pixels, 21:9 ratio (~643 ppi density). As stated above the display is covered with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. All of this runs at 1096 x 2560 pixels except for select use cases.

Hardware

The operating system on the latest phone from Sony comes with the Android 11 which is upgradable to Android 12. The OS is powered by a Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G which is the 5 nm production chipset. The CPU on the phone is a well-known Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz as well as the Cortex-X1 & 3×2.42 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4×1.80 GHz Cortex-A55). This is finished with a GPU which is the Adreno 660. The memory is a Card slot microSDXC which uses a shared SIM slot. There is also internal memory of 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM. Those are the options which we do know of so far. There is also the UFS 3.X.

Camera

The main camera is a quad camera which is now pretty much standard on the latest phones. Sony is no different in this regard. The Quad consists of the following lenses: 12 MP, f/1.7, 24mm (wide), 1/1.7″, 1.8µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS 12 MP, f/2.3, 70mm (telephoto), f/2.8, 105mm (telephoto), 1/2.9″, Dual Pixel PDAF, 3x/4.4x optical zoom, OIS 0.3 MP, TOF 3D, (depth) 12 MP, f/2.2, 124˚, 16mm (ultrawide), 1/2.6″, Dual Pixel PDAF The camera setup features the high-end Zeiss optics, Zeiss T lens coating as well as an LED flash. There is also panorama, HDR as well as an eye tracking feature. Video recording is also very good as 4K@24/25/30/60/120fps HDR. With such high frame rates you will need to ensure that you have enough storage space. There is also the video resolution of  1080p@30/60/120/240fps. This is very impressive as they are all feature a 5-axis gyro-EIS, OIS. This is the rear of the camera. There is a single selfie camera which is a 8 MP, f/2.0, 24mm (wide), 1/4″, 1.12µm camera. This comes with the usual features such as as well as HDR and video running at 1080p@30fps, 5-axis gyro-EIS. The sound system comes with a loudspeaker as well as with stereo speakers and the standard 3.5mm jack. Note also that this is 24-bit/192kHz audio which also comes with the dynamic vibration system.

Communications

The phone comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6. I am not certain as to which version of 6 it is using. There is also a dual-band as well as Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA with WiFi hotspot support. There is also Bluetooth version 5.2. GPS is also on this phone. There is A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO as well as QZSS. At this price there is also NFC. Note however that there is no radio in this phone. USB comes in the form of USB Type-C 3.1 as well as USB On-The-Go.

Sensors

There is an array of sensors. This include the side-mounted fingerprint reader as well as an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer, compass as well as a  color spectrum.

Power

The phone comes with a Li-Po 4500 mAh, non-removable battery. Many don’t like the non-removable batteries. The advertised charging rates are 30W to 50% in 30 min fast charging. There is also fast wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.
