This Lumia 1520 was the second last phone released by Nokia in 2013. This is a much better model than the budget phone they released being the Nokia 525 which is also reviewed on this website. It uses the same IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen as the Nokia Lumia 800 but with a much higher pixel density. Think of this as a remake of that Lumia legend.

Nokia Lumia 1520

The Lumia 1520 covers just about every network available. This ranges from 2G GSM networks on 850, 900, 1800 and the 1900 range. 3G networks from the HSDPA 850, 900, 1900 and 2100 – RM-937, RM-939 right to the HSDPA 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 and RM-938. The is also coverage for 4G networks which is not very common and this being the LTE 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600  and RM-937 range and also the LTE 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100, 2600 and RM-938. Considering the network coverage from this Nokia Lumia 1520 you can expect this mobile phone to still be around 7 years from now and still be relevant. It is also clear that with this mobile phone Nokia was trying to future proof the phone when you look at the full specs of the phone. We will cover the sound, connectivity and the other features of this phone below.

The Lumia 1520 comes with the standard sound abilities such as playing WAV ringtones which has been around for years. It also comes with vibration ringing and also the ability to use an MP3 as a ringtone. There is also a loudspeaker with an SDcard for up to 64GB external  storage for all your MP3 files. The plus on this phone is the addition of – Dolby Headphone sound enhancement which gives you great Nokia Lumia 1520 Specificationsmusic through he headphones. There is nothing worst than listing to Bach yet sounding like a cat in pain. It also records in stereo which enhances your videos which you record.

The internal memory is huge and more than ample with 32GB of internal storage and 2GB memory. It is clear Nokia wanted to have another phone released in 2013 that would stand the test of time.

Yes the Lumia 1520 comes with GPRS connectivity and EDGE also coming in at up to 236.8 kbps of bandwidth. There is also HSDPA at 42.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps; LTE, Cat4, 50 Mbps upload and  150 Mbps download. This is very fast and should still be good 5 years from now as multimedia gets bigger and better.

There is also Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with the  dual-band and Wi-Fi hotspot. Bluetooth is also covered with v4.0 with A2DP and there is also microUSB connectivity. The connectivity on this phone is second to none and one of the better phones on the market today if not the best.

The Lumia 1520 comes with a high end Carl Zeiss camera as standard. This is a 20 MegaPixel camera and which comes not only with autofocus but also with optical image stabilization which you do not find in many phones. There is also a dual-LED flash to ensure that you do not get shows when taking photos.

The 20 MegaPixel Carl Zeiss camera runs at 30fps however unlike most it runs at a very high 1080 pixels to give you clear and crisp video playback. The video sensor is very large so the picture and video quality is again second to none coming in at a whopping 1/2.5”.

There is a smaller 1.2 MegaPixel secondary camera  which is a standard camera by spec as it only does 720pixels and 30fps. The primary camera however makes up for this. The camera comes with geo-tagging as standard and a video light.

The Lumia 1520 uses the Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and this is powered by the Quad-core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 processor. The GPU is the Adreno 330 which is the GPU for this mobile phone. The phone is rounded off with an accelerometer, gyro, compass and proximity  sensors. The phone uses the well known Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Black operating system.

The Lumia 1520 mobile phone comes with an FM radio and the standard ability to send multimedia messages which includes MMS and as always email from the phone. It also allows for Internet Messengers. There is also support for GPS and A-GPS and also GLONASS. Note that this phone has no Java and only comes in Yellow, White, Black and Red.

The microphone is a noise cancelling microphone. There is an MP3 and WMA multimedia player, 7GB of free Skydrive storage facility, document viewer, Video and photo editor if you like making short home movies. Voice memo and dialing and predictive text input to round off a well balanced mobile phone.

The power storage on a phone this powerful is very good. Now considering the specs as listed above being a large memory, large screen and above all a quad-core processor one might expect you would need to recharge this mobile phone daily.

The Lumia 1520 has a Lithium Ion battery with 3400mAh storage and this allows the mobile phone when not being used to last at least 1 month before it needs to re-charged. It can play MP3’s for about 124 hours and has about 27 hours of talk time. What comes with this phone. Well the Nokia Lumia 1520 with a high efficiency charger and a Quick guide booklet.

If you want a mobile phone which will last you the next 5 years without the need for an upgrade then the Nokia 1520 is an excellent investment. It comes at a price but it is well worth it. you can find the user manual for the Nokia 1520 here.
