Nokia has outdone itself with the Nokia Lumia 1020 as it is one of the best mobile phones on the market today, if not the best. It has all the bells and whistles that one would expect from a high end phone, from a 41 megapixel camera, yes 41 megapixels as well as 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity with a dual core processor. All of this comes at a price of course.
The Nokia 1020 was released in July 2013 and even today its specs are still up there with the mobile phone released this year. The phone comes with coverage for 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) as well as 3G (HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100 & HSDPA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 ) and also 4G (LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800) & LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 17(700)). The internet speed is impressive at HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE Cat3 100/50 Mbps. There is also GPRS as well as EDGE.
The size of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is about the same size as other Lumia phones coming in at 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm, 96.9 cc (5.13 x 2.81 x 0.41 in). 13cm X 7cm is still small enough to fit into your top pocket. Its also rather light at 158 g considering the specs on the mobile phone. Much like other high end phones you will be impressed with its AMOLED capacitive touchscreen as well as the 16M colors it can display.
The screen is large at 4.5 inches and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with a PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display. The screen resolution is also very impressive at 768 x 1280 pixels however you will note that its pixel density of ~332 ppi pixel density is almost twice as dense as the budget phones. This gives you a very clear picture and makes for good and impressive video watching.
The phone is powered by a Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor with a Adreno 225 GPU and a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus chipset. All very impressive hardware in the phone and you will not be disappointed by what it can deliver. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a good multimedia phone and with an impressive 41 MP (38 MP effective) camera with Carl Zeiss optics makes for an excellent package. The camera comes with auto/manual focus, as well as a Xenon & LED flash. The camera is large and makes for impressive pictures and video as it has a 1/1.5″ sensor size. This is also geared for geo-tagging, face detection and panorama pictures.
The video on the camera is more impressive than even the pictures. The phone can play video at 1080p@30fps. Thats high definition video at 30fps. Very few mobile phones have the ability to do that. This also features a 4x lossless digital zoom. The secondary camera is no slouch either. Its a 1.2 MP, 720p@30fps camera. Makes for very good selfie photos and video. There is no card slot but with 32 GB of space 64 GB (Telefonica exclusive) and 2GB of memory you clearly cant run out of space.
The Nokia 1020 also feature good audio. This is mainly its Dolby Digital Plus audio enhancement, Dolby Headphone jack as well as active noise cancellation with a dedicated microphone. The phone also comes with WiFi with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n as well as Bluetooth v4.0 as well as GPS such as A-GPS and GLONASS. The phone also have NFC as well as a Stereo FM radio with a microUSB v2.0 USB port.
The phone also comes with sensors such as an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and barometer. It features email, push, threaded SMS, MMS and email. There is also an HTML5 browser and also note that there is no Java on the mobile phone.
The battery is not removable on the Nokia Lumia 1020 and it is a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery (BV-5XW) with a standby time of about 384 h (3G) and a talktime of 19 h (2G). Overall this is a really great phone from Nokia and one that you could consider a good long term investment.
